Creating Views

Views are saved sets of filters, sorting rules, and view options for a deck. They allow you to look at the same deck from different angles and review cards based on the applied filters.

Views also make it easy to do custom review sessions called craming, outside of the normal spaced repetition review schedule.

Creating a view

  1. Open a deck.
  2. Click the () button next to the default view (usually Grid View).
  3. Click the newly created view to give it a name and adjust options.
  4. Click the Filters button.
  5. Add some filters (e.g., tags, field values, card types, creation date).
  6. Adjust sorting (e.g., alphabetical, most recent, spaced-repetition status).

Using views to cram cards

Cramming in Mochi is a review mode that exists outside of the normal spaced repetition schedule. You can review cards that are not necessarily due, and the review results do not affect the spaced repetition scheduling or review history.

How to cram cards:

  1. Open a deck that has cards you want to cram.
  2. Click on the view that has the filters / sort options you want.
  3. Click on the Filters button on the right-hand side to show the filters / sort buttons if they're not already visible.
  4. Click on the Cram button on the right-hand side.

Cramming lets you review cards whenever you want, even when they're not due. The cards that appear in cram mode will respect all of the same filters and sorting options that are applied to the current view.

This is a good way to target specific cards, for example tricky cards with a low recall rate, or cards that contain information that will appear in an upcoming exam.

Examples of useful views

  • New cards only, sorted by created at.
  • Only Pinned cards.
  • Cards below a certain retention rate (good for cramming).
  • Notes tagged #project (good for cramming e.g. before an exam).
  • Cards reviewed today (good for checking today's review results).

You can learn more about views in the Views section of the docs.
