Archiving
Archiving lets you remove cards (or entire decks) from the spaced-repetition review system—without deleting anything. Archived cards:
- Do not appear in the New cards queue
- Do not appear in Due today
- Keep all content, history, tags, links, attachments, etc.
- Can still be crammed or viewed at any time
Archiving is a reversible way to temporarily or permanently pause reviewing certain material.
Why archive?
Archiving is useful when:
- You’ve finished studying a topic
- A card is outdated or no longer relevant
- You want to keep a card as reference only
- You want a deck for notes only
Archiving a single card
You can archive any card individually:
- Open the card
- Click the (more) menu
- Select Archive card
- Or press
A on the keyboard to toggle archiving.
The card instantly stops appearing in review queues.
You can unarchive it at any time from the same menu.
Tip
If a card is giving your trouble during review, but might still be useful as a reference, archiving is a better option than deleting.
Archiving an entire deck
You can also archive a full deck to pause reviewing all its cards at once:
- Open the deck page
- Click the (more) menu at the top right
- Select Archive deck
Every card in the deck (and its subdecks) will be removed from the review schedule.
To resume studying later, simply unarchive the deck using the same menu.
Archiving for notes and reference decks
Many users store non-flashcard content in Mochi—like:
- Research notes
- Lecture summaries
- Project documentation
- Language examples not meant for review
- Personal knowledge base materials
Archiving the deck containing these cards ensures they never appear in reviews but remain fully editable, searchable, linkable, and viewable.
