New cards are cards you’ve created but have not yet gone through a review session. When a new card is created, or cards are imported, they are new cards by default.
Learning new cards
Open the deck you want to study.
Click New cards in the top right.
If the button says Review, click the dropdown and select New Cards.
Mochi will begin by showing you cards that have recently been added to the deck.
When learning new cards, you’ll see two buttons on each card:
Add to reviews — adds the card to your spaced-repetition schedule (press SPACE)
Again — lets you postpone the card and come back to it later (press F)
Use Add to reviews when you feel comfortable enough with the material to start seeing it in your regular review sessions. If you’re not quite ready, choose Again to cycle past it and take another look after you’ve gone through the rest of the new cards.
You can also use the left and right arrow buttons to move backward or forward through the queue as needed.
Tip
Most people learn best when they introduce only a handful of new cards per day. That way, you’re not overwhelmed later when all of those cards come back for review.
Changing the order
By default cards will be shown in the same order that the deck's sort setting is set to. You can change this by clicking the Sort button at the top right of the New cards screen.
Limiting new cards per day
If you feel like you’re seeing too many new cards, you can reduce the number of new cards that will be shown each day in the New cards queue. To enable this setting:
Click on Settings in the left-hand side navigation.
Choose Review Settings from the dropdown.
Scroll down to Limit new cards per day and add a number to the input field.
Click Save Changes.
Unlearning cards
If at some point you want to reset a card that is already in the review schedule back to being a new card, you can do so by Resetting the review history. This can usually be done via the card's () dropdown menu, or right-clicking on a card, depending on where you're viewing the card.
